GEM Binary Distribution Robert Avis June 1999

This directory contains the disk images for the commercial distribution
of GEM/3 release 3.01.

To build a distribution, you will need 6 blank floppy disks. Each disk
was originally made for a 330Kb disk, so you should have no trouble
fitting it on to a 1.44Mb or 720Kb floppy.

Execute the program gem30make.com. It will ask for the disks and
prepare a disk set. To install GEM, insert disk 1 and execute
GEMSETUP.EXE. If this program fails, you will have to manually unzip
the files gm30dsk1.zip to gem30dsk6.zip to disks and manually set
labels. (see below).

GEM Setup looks for a disk label when installing. You must set these,
otherwise GEMSETUP will not work. They are shown below. You can change
disk lables using the DOS 'label' command, or Windows
File Manager/Explorer. GM30MAKE.COM sets these automatically, but
please check, it is very buggy.

disk1 "GEM SYSTEM" (2 spaces between GEM and SYSTEM)
disk2 "GEM SCREEN1" (1 space)
disk3 "GEM SCREEN2" (1 space)
disk4 "GEM PRINTR1" (1 space)
disk5 "GEM PRINTR2" (1 space)
disk6 "GEM PRINTR3" (1 space)

To help during setup, label the disks physically as follows:

disk1	GEM System Master Disk
disk2	GEM Screen Disk #1
disk3	GEM Screen Disk #2
disk4	GEM Printer Disk #1
disk5	GEM Printer Disk #2
disk6	GEM Printer Disk #3
